This website is dedicated to the health and recovery of Gavin Paul Myers, who was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma at the age of 5 months on November 17, 2007. He is in Stage 4 of this rare form of cancer and is undergoing aggresssive chemotherapy treatments and blood transfusions in an attempt to save his life.

Gavin’s health insurance only covers a fraction of the mounting costs needed to see him through the road to recovery. Rick and Shannon Myers, Gavin’s daddy and mommy, need your help. To donate to the Baby Gavin Myers Fund, please click here.

Please visit this website often for updates and information about Gavin and his medical condition. If you are unable to make a donation to Gavin’s Fund, please feel free to send a comment of support on this site, and remember him and his family in your prayers. Gavin is a determined, playful, happy bundle of joy in our lives who – with your help and prayers – will grow up to be an amazing young man.

Prayer for Gavin

St. Gerard, who, like the Savior, loved children so tenderly and by your prayers freed many from disease and even death, listen to us who are pleading for our sick child.

We thank God for the great gift of baby Gavin and ask him to restore him to health if such be his holy will. This favor, we beg of you through your love for all children, mothers and fathers, sisters and brothers.

Amen.

Just wanted to show some love to baby Gavin, Shannon, Rick and Madison! Gavin is so precious and is a gift to all of us. He is in my thoughts and prayers!

I know there is nothing I can say that can make things better, but I want you all to know that Gavin is in my thoughts and prayers everyday. No matter what happens you have to be happy for the time you do have with him. He has already touched your lives forever. You have a piece of heaven. Here is a poem for Gavin, rick, and Shannon. That’s how I deal with things I write.

Holding heaven in your hands
Face to face with God
A ray of sunshine in your arms
Sent from up above
Love, joy, and purity
In tangible form
A breath of life
From the creator himself
Placed carefully
In your two hands
To care for, to love
A piece of his kingdom…Heaven

and here’s one more. I could never begin to imagine how it feels but:

Though the night surrounds you
A thousand voices whispering
Your mind is spinning endlessly
Through the shadows a star is glistening
Countless hours ticking by
Slowly driving you insane
Close your eyes, breathe in deep
Exhale all the pain
Soon the sun will shine again
And you will be relieved
All you have to do
Is stay focused and believe

god bless you all, i will continue to pray.

My heart goes out to Gavin and family. We will keep him in our thoughts and prayers.

We are all praying for you Gavin, and for the
family!!!!!!! There is not a night or day that does not go by that you all are in our prayers and thoughts!

Rick, Shannon, Maddie & Gavin:

A Poem by
by Frank J. Zamboni

I said a prayer for you today
And know God must have heard.
I felt the answer in my heart
Although he spoke no word!

I didn’t ask for wealth or fame
(I knew you wouldn’t mind).
I asked him to send treasures
Of a far more lasting kind!

I asked that he be near you
At the start of each new day;
To grant you health and blessings
And friends to share your way!

I asked for happiness for you
In all things great and small.
But it was for his loving care
I prayed the most of all!

This poem has always been close to my
heart as are the four of you.

My support goes out to baby Gavin, Shannon, Rick, and Madison. Stay strong, we are all praying for you!

Rick, Shannon, Madison and Gavin

we will surely keep you in our thought and prayers….
God works in mysterious ways, keep up the positive outlook no matter how things seem to get, you will always find the strength to keep things going……God Bless you all

May God Bless you and your family and give you the strength to get though all that lies ahead of you. Keep the faith. God can move mountains. Without God we have nothing. You and your entire family are in our prayers daily. We were so saddened to hear about Gavin. If we can do anything we are always here.

I can’t say “I know” nor can I say “I can imagine” because I can’t. I only know that when we think we have been tested beyond endurance, we find strength through our faith to keep on going. Don’t stop praying and believing. Let other people who love you help you and you will get through this.

Rick, Shannon, & Family,

I just want to let you know you are in our thoughts and prayers daily. As hard as it is, don’t give up on your faith. Our God is an awesome God and he will give you the strength and the encouragement that you need to face each day. Take one day at a time and know there are a lot of people out there that care for you and are praying for you. If you need anything you can rely on anyone of us with anything you may need. May God Bless you and your family.

Rick and Shannon,
At this special time of the year when we
prepare to celebrate the birth of our Savior
and at a time so filled with excitement and
anticipation by small children everywhere, we
were so saddened to hear about your son, Gavin.

We work so hard at protecting those we love,
especially our children, but sometimes we are
unable to wrap our arms around them and “make
it all better” Now we must ask God to wrap his
gentle and loving arms, not only around Gavin,
but also you his family and “make it all better”.

Please, Lord, if it be Thy will, restore health
to Gavin and give Rick, Shannon and their
families the strength and faith they will need
through the coming days and months. May the
Miracle of Christmas touch their baby boy in
some special way, Amen.

I heard of your website from a friend. I am so sorry for your family’s hard times. I will keep Gavin in my prayers as he endures his chemotherapy.

I know that the cost of cancer therapy can be enormous, even with good insurance. I gathered from the website that Gavin is being treated at Children’s Hospital of Pennsylvania, a wonderful facility.

I just wanted to mention that your family may want to look into treatment at St. Jude Children’s Hospital in Memphis, TN.

I am sure that you know about St. Jude, the hospital that Danny Thomas founded. It is a wonderful place, offering state of the art care, up-to-date therapies and a comforting supportive environment for families. I believe that St. Jude does file costs with insurance companies, but families are not responsible for any of the other costs. That can potentially alleviate at least one of your burdens.

I see that you live in PA. St. Judes sees patients from all over the world. There is a “Target House”, which houses families for extended periods of time while the children are being treated. The accomodations are fantastic. There is a wonderful library, fantastic playground, beautiful gazebo, gym, etc. It was opened around 1998.

I do not work for St. Jude, although I may sound like it. I am a physician and I did my training in Memphis. Part of my training was at St. Jude. My husband and I used to volunteer at the St. Jude Target House. They are truly wonderful in every aspect of treating children (and their families) with cancer. I just thought I’d mention that to you.

Again, my thought and prayers are with you and baby Gavin. Miracles happen and babies beat the odds every day.
God bless you all,
Halla Sher

Dear Shannon, Rick, Madison, and Gavin,
I really felt like I needed to leave a post to leave a few words of encouragement. Our family can honestly say ” We understand what you are going thru. Our daughter was diagnosed with a terminal illness at age 10 mos. I understand the day to day life with it, I understand feeling like Children’s was a second home, and I understand every test and procedure was frightening. We would like to be any support we could. Our friends and family in the Ellwood area were tremendous, but I would love to give back and help if I can. We cherished everyday we had with our beautiful daughter, and were blessed to have her more years than what they had thought. Hang in there and know there are people praying for you guys constantly.

Shannon,

I just read your article in the Ellwood City Ledger. As I read the article, I did not realize who you were until I saw your maiden name (Frederick). Please know that we will pray for strenghth and healing for you and your precious baby. Sometimes we don’t understand why, but God always has a plan for each one of us. God bless!

Dear Rick, Shannon, and family,

I heard about your beautiful sons illness and
was directed to this website. These times are so
very difficult and my family and I will pray theat
God places his healing hand on baby Gavins body.
We will keep all of you close to our hearts and
in our daily prayers.
“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares
for you.” 1 Peter 5:7

God Bless,
Mark and Amy Gardner

We know first hand the emotional and finical stress your family is going though. Please keep a positive attitude because Gavin can beat neuroblastoma. Our grandson Chase is proof of that.
Chase is a survivor of neuroblastoma. At the age of two he had to endure several surgeries, several chemo treatments, and a stem cell rescue at children’s in Pittsburgh.

I am happy to report that at his last check up the doctor’s say he is in remission.

Chase is a typical 4 ½ year old little boy showing no ill effects of this terrible disease. He is a growing, active bundle of energy thanks to the prayers from all over the world, and the doctors at Children’s.

GAVIN CAN BEAT THIS DISEASE!!!!

Baby Gavin, today is the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe. I prayed for you today and asked our Lady to send you a hand of a miracle for your recovery.

“The Prayer”

~I pray you’ll be our eyes, and watch us where we go and help us to be wise in times when we don’t know…Let this be our prayer, when we lose our way…Lead us to a place, guide us with your grace, to a place where we’ll be safe~

Dear Baby Gavin, Shannon, Rick & Madison:

Words cannot adequately express the pain I feel for baby Gavin and your family. Shannon, I have had the pleasure of knowing you and Ivy through working with your wonderful mother Diana. I pray for your beautiful baby boy and for your family that our God is walking beside you during this difficult time, guiding you to a safe place, and shining his love upon you.

Love,

Melissa Verone

“Let your heart not be troubled, Trust in me for I am with you”

John 14:10

My thoughts and prayers are with you all and know that you draw on the strength of each other through this difficult time. God will continue to walk along with and hold little Gavin’s hand as he bravely faces all that is ahead.

Rick, Shannon, Madison, and Baby Gavin,

I just want you to know that there is NOT a moment when I don’t think about you guys!! I pray everynight that you guys wake up to find that Gavin has beaten this!! Just like everyone has said–prayer and God are both powerful things and believe me–you have a lot of prayers coming from my household!! Take care of yourselves and if you need anything–you guys know where to find me!!

“Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing , that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. ” Romans 15:13

“Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things that are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.” Romans 16-18

We had a nice weekend with a group of friends from home and family. We are blessed to have such wonderful people in our lives.

Please continue to pray that the good days will begin to out number the bad days. That God will bring comfort and peace to Amy’s heart and soul. She has been through so much and continues to deal with so many different emotions. I would give anything to take these burdens off of her for just one day. But, God is the only one with that power and thats why I ask for prayer.

Amy, Abby, and I lift up Gavin Myers and family(Infant baby boy dealing with neuroblastoma from Ellwood City) and Corrine Borcelli (dealing with cancer also) in prayer daily. We hope that verses like the ones above can bring comfort like they do for us.

In Christ,

Mark Gardner

I’ve not had the pleasure of knowing you personally but heard about your baby son Gavin through my niece Christine (Chad’s fiancee). Please know that you are not alone and that you are not powerless.
So many people already pray for you daily and the circle extends ever outward. I’m asking everyone I know to pray for you all during the holiday season and through the New Year. May Gavin’s medical team be divinely guided! Sincerely, Eileen Simas

I am a friend of Jamilyn’s ( I work with her). Your family is in my family’s prayers daily.

Rick, Shannon, Madison and Gavin,

We recently learned about this terrible ordeal that you have been going through. Words just can’t express how terribly sorry we are that this has happened to such good people like you. You are great parents and strong people and we know that little Gavin will beat the odds. If there is anything that we can do for you please let us know. If you need a sitter for Madison we would be more than happy to watch her. Our girls would love it. We will call you soon. Until then, you are in our thoughts and prayers.

Shannon, Rick, Madision, and Gavin,

My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.
I wish I had the power to make everything better.
God takes care of us and I know there are angels
looking after all of you. God Bless and stay strong.
Love,
Stephanie and Michael

Rick and Shannon,

My mother and father are your neighbors. My father (Herman Ritzert) passed away on December 8. He beat the odds of survival many times in his lifetime. He was a very special man. My family has requested that memorial donations made in our father’s memory be given to Gavin. This website was listed in his obituary.
We are also praying for Gavin. We pray that he beats the odds and makes a full recovery. Miracles do happen. May God Bless you.

Baby Gavin – today is the 20th of December and I recently read an update – A week ago on the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, I presented you to Mary and asked her for a healing. I believe She is interceeding for you. I will continue to pray for you everyday at the 3:00 Hour. We love you.

It is called the “jake owen rayborn foundation” and the web site is http://www.jakesfoundation.org Glad to hear gavin might be coming home. Take care, all of you.

We gain strength, and courage, and confidence by each experience in which we really stop to look fear in the face… we must do that which we think we cannot.–Eleanor Roosevelt

Shannon and Rick…may you continue to find the strength you need each day to “look fear in the face” as you continue to champion for your son…and may you feel the hands and hearts of those who love you holding you close always…we are so honored to be among them…Kim and Steve

My mom (Micki) told me this morning of the wonderful news!! GOD is definitely answering an abundance of prayers. I feel in my heart that you will see a miracle in the healing power of GOD. You are incredible people and so loved by many. I will continue to pray for all of you. GOD Bless you Shannon, Rick, Maddie, and Gavin!!!

GREAT GREAT news about Gavin. It’s all up hill from now on. I have a direct link to the Man upstairs and He’s listening. Thank God for this miracle and there will be plenty more. This summer Gavin and Craig will be Playing together and having a great time, of course little Miss Madison too. Love to you all

We are praying for your family. I know for a fact that God still does miracles. We just need to believe in him and let him have control of everything. In Matthew 19:14 Jesus said,” Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.

Shannon and family, you are all in our thoughts and prayers. We can relate to what you are going through and what you to know that miracles never cease. Take comfort in the prayers that are being offered for all of you. It is the most powerful “medicine” of all. You were so wonderful to us when our baby was sick. I am wishing for you that you have a caring and supportive medical staff as well. We know first hand the miracles of Children’s and we are praying for the same for you. I know that it’s all very overwhelming and frightening, but keep strong in your faith in God and the loving thoughts and prayers that are surrounding you.

I am Zachary Pratt and I am 7 and I hope that
Gavin gets well and he looks cute very very
cute. i was also at the dinner on sunday and
would like to help any way i can with the
fundraising

I just wanted to say that Gavin is in my family and I`s prayers. Being that I plan to join the fire department in 2 years I felt that it was my job to let my future extended brother and sister know that I am willing to help you guys in any way that I can. You guys always did good for me, and now its my turn to give back what you have given me.

We are so glad that you got some good news. I am a friend of Jamilynn G. Your family is in our prayers. It is amazing how prayer works and from all the corners of the country that they are coming from.

Hi I am a friend of Trudy Myers. She has been keeping me updated on Gavin’s condition. I will continue to keep him and his family in my prayers. Just remember God never gives us more than we can handle and he is always there to hold us up if we need his help. All we have to do is ask through prayer.

Dear Rick, Shannon, Madison, and Gavin,

You are in our hearts and prayers. Always
remember that God hears you and is with you.
Matthew 18: 19-20: “If two of you agree on earth
about anything for which they are to pray, it shall be
granted to them by my heavenly Father. For where
two or three are gathered together in my name,
there am I in the midst of them”. Remember to draw
strength from your faith in God and from your love
for each other. We will be praying for you daily.

Go, Baby Gavin, Go!

Dear Shannon, Rick, Madison and Gavin…… so glad to hear that things are going well! I loved our visit and getting to hold Gavin last week. Take care. Keeping you all in thought and prayer. Love, Vicki J.

So sorry to learn about the additional surgery Gavin faces to replace his central line. It is so sad that he must endure that along with everything else that is happening in his little body. He really is a trooper!
We continue to keep all of you in our prayers.

Hello, I know you don’t know me, but my name is Shannon Hall, I’m 20 years old and I live in Chippewa. I used to live in New Castle so this story kind of hit home for me. I don’t have any children of my own nor can I have any children of my own, but I have close friends and relatives who do have children. When a friend of mine showed me Gavin’s story, I knew I had to do something. I’ve been working for about a week and a half on making shapes for people to buy for $1 and sign their name on and with the help of Big Daddy’s in Ambridge, in 2 nights, we’ve made $50. We are still selling them and will keep selling them until we’ve reached our goal. It is my pleasure as long as the staff at Big Daddy’s to help you on your mission. We will be sending you the money shortly and we wish the best for baby Gavin and his family. Take Care.

Shannon Hall

Shannon, Rick and Madison,
My husband and I have were very moved by Gavin’s story in the New Castle News. I do send donations regularly to St. Judes Hospital and was shocked to read about a baby so close to home. Even though we don’t know you, we would like to send our thoughts and prayers to you and your family and especially to Gavin. May the support of family, friends and the public help you to get through this tough time. Gavin is beautiful and his big sister looks like his biggest support. May God bless you and keep you in the palm of his hand. We will keep you in our prayers. Diane and Brady Flamino

Shannon,

Your family & Gavin are in our thoughts &

I also had a 2 yr. old daughter at home. It’s
difficult & exhausting at the same time. With
family, friends, & our faith we made it. With-
out Children’s Hospital my son wouldn’t be here
today. I will continue to pray for Gavin.

i have heard alot about baby gavin from friends. im a sophomore at lincoln high school & in english we are required to do a project and we had many of choices to choose from. one was a community service thing. we had to write a persuasive essay saying why we should do this community service act and what it is. my friend bethany and i are planning on doing some type of community service act to raise money for baby gavin. (: our school will choose which one and we will do one. so we are hoping our school will be kind enough and support this little kid and his family. best wishes!!! and hopefully our wish will follow through. STAY STRONG BABY GAVIN!

Too swift for those who fear
Too long for those who grieve

Shannon, Rick, Madison & Gavin,

I think of you often,
and remember you in prayer.
I ask the Lord to help you
with the burdens you must bear.
If he doesn’t remove your burdens,
he’ll carry them for you.
So, be encouraged,
for he’s promised this to do.
I also ask the Lord to bless you,
and to meet your every need,
and to help you read his Word,
and to give it earnest heed.
Yes, I think of you often,

Here, freed from pain, secure from misery, lies
A child, the darling of his parents’ eyes:
A gentler Lamb ne’er sported on the plain,
A fairer flower will never bloom again:
Few were the days allotted to his breath;
Now let him sleep in peace his night of death.

God bless you Gavin we love you

ONE MOMENT

I loved you before you were born
Before I ever saw your face
Before I held you in my arms
Before I gave you a name

Before I heard your voice
Or saw your first smile
Even before I realized
You were only here for a while

I loved you in every moment
Imagined those we never shared
Your first steps, your first words
Your first lock of hair

As the angels quietly sing
I struggle to understand
Wishing for one more moment
To hold your tiny hand

THE BORROWED GEM

I’ll lend you for a little time
A child of mine, He said.
For you to love the while he lives
And mourn for when he’s dead.

It may be twelve or thirteen months,
Or twenty-two, or three;
But will you, ‘till I call him back
Take care of him for me?

He’ll bring his charm to gladden you,
And shall his stay be brief,
You’ll have his lovely memories
As solace for your grief.

I cannot promise he will stay,
Since all from earth return;
But there are lessons taught down there
I want this child to learn.

I’ve looked the wide world over
In my search for teachers true,
And from the throng that crowds life’s lanes,
I’ve selected you.

Now will you give him all your love,
Nor think the labor vain,
Nor hate Me when I come to call
To take him back again.

I fancied that I heard you say,
Dear Lord, Thy will be done;
For all the joy Thy child shall bring,
The risk of grief we’ll run.

And though we wish we had more time,
We’ll love him while we may;
And for the happiness we’ve known,
Forever grateful stay.

But shall the angels call for him
Much sooner than we planned,
We’ll brave the bitter grief that came,
And try to understand.

(May the above poem give you peace at this difficult time. You’re in our thoughts and prayers.)

I miss you little one. It seems so impossible that you’ve been gone for 8 months. You are on my mind and in my heart everyday.
